On the way to church Sunday morning

A boat cafe in Mörbisch

On the way back from Mörbisch

On the ferry from Illmitz

Our visit to the Fertőzug and Lake Fertő

The "Fertőzug" is a VERY flat region which is squished between Lake Fertő and the Hungarian border to Austria. Since it used to be part of Hungary before 1921 it has a Hungarian name. In German it is known as the "Seewinkel". It is a very popular destination for cycling trips (due to its flatness, good wines and abundance of cycle paths).
The boys and I went up there on Sunday, so as to leave the girls to celebrate Bella's birthday party in relative (boy-free) peace.
First we went to an animal park which had all kinds of animals that one finds on the steppes. The Lake is considered to be the last "steppe" lake in Europe. We saw various kinds of cows, weasels, wolves, pigs (lots of pigs), and some birds and other stuff.
Then we drove to Illmitz, and rode the bikes out to the Lake, where we hopped on the ferry to Mörbisch, which is on the western shore, just north of Sopron. We got some ice cream there, and then headed back across. The boys chatted up the Hungarian lady on the 2nd boat. Then they played at the playground, and then we rode back to the car and headed home...
